Favorite things of the month

I've been struggling with how I want to structure my blog and what I want to write about, and the thing is, I want to write about lots of things: writing, books, music, cooking, TV, restaurants, kid things, pet things, relationship things, etc. So, I've decided to do it all and write about my three favorite things of the month. Three seemed like a good round number and it happens to be my favorite number. Thankfully this month's inaugural choices were easy and the categories are (in my best Pray Tell from Pose voice) music, book, and TV.

1) Music: Steal the Show- Lauv

This one snuck up on me. I'd never even heard of Lauv until I watched Elemental with my daughter. The movie was absolutely adorable but the highlight was this song. My daug

hter listens to anything she likes on repeat forever and ever amen so I've heard this song more than enough to fall in love with it. The lyrics are very sweet, especially if you've seen the movie, and the music is beautiful. It has a Middle Eastern feel, particularly in the beginning, and is smooth without being too slow. It's the kind of song you fall in love to while walking in the rain. It's romantic and screams first love.

2) Book: Bet on It- Jodie Slaughter

I'd heard of Jodie Slaughter but hadn't read her work yet. I'd been meaning to and when Bet on It popped up as something I might like, I downloaded it and I'm glad I did. I loved this romance. It was funny and sweet and did an excellent job of addressing anxiety and show

ing how it can manifest in different people. The FMC moves to a small town and gets involved in the local Bingo scene where she meets her Bingo buddy's grandson and sparks fly. Both main characters live with anxiety which allows them to be very sym

pathetic toward each other as well as forgiving. There's oodles of chemistry between Aja and Walker and the steam level is pretty high. I also really enjoyed the way Ms. Slaughter portrayed Black female friendships and friendships generally. I give it a solid A.

3) TV: Real Housewives of New York

There's a lot of good TV out there, and I occasionally watch it but my bread and butter is trash TV. Give me Bravo, E!, any Netflix reality show and I'm there for it. My husband and I have been watching RHONY and I'm hooked. This isn't my first rodeo with the Real Housewives franchise but oh is it my favorite. These women are smart, accomplished, and hilarious. They're also messy AF. Maybe my affinity for them is because they remind me of the characters I write about:

badass women who are far from perfect but trying their best. Whatever the reason, I adore them. I'm especially fond of Brynn. She makes no apologies for who she is and does it fabulously. Her style is on point, her hair is gorgeously red, and she'll flirt with anything that moves. The woman knows how to have fun and is about her business.

So, there's my top three of the month. I wish I could have some super insightful tie-in but no. I'm reading my spooky season/fall books right now so we'll see if any of them make an appearance. I also have grand plans to rewatch Casper as an adult to see if it still gives me the warm fuzzies. I have my theories.

Anywho, toodles!
